Learning outcomes

The objective is to confront the student with a multidisciplinary subject, not seen in the course, on which, in the first part, a personal and original work will be required, both theoretical (understanding and presentation of the problem) and technical (learning a mode of presentation). The second part brings together all the students in the organisation of an event, often organised during the Printemps des Sciences. This work is a continuation of the group work in Bac 1 and 2, combining personal work and participation in a collective project. The final assessment includes an English component.

Goals

To be part of a collective project, to discover one's own skills, to share them with the whole group, to organise an event for a given and targeted public, to show rigour and creativity, to go beyond the stage of pure knowledge to tackle problems in society or other disciplines.

Content

The theme changes each year, as do the techniques and the type of presentation required. A "public" event closes the project and allows the whole department to ask questions and assess the maturity and achievement of the student. An exhibition on Chaos, a collective conference on Wavelets, an exhibition on Game Theory, a knowledge and speed contest for theoreticians, a game for primary school children, an exhibition on superheroes, a great game on the city of Namur, a storytelling tour of the solar system, a study of the forces of superheroes, an exhibition on the New Observatory of UNamur, a play on the great Belgian mathematicians, are the most striking examples. This formula will be adapted to the very specific conditions of the current containment, but the spirit and principles will be respected.

Assessment method

The assessment covers both personal and group work: - the personal written support of a few pages - the technical support used (poster, graphic software) - the collective performance at the event - personal contribution to the presentation of the event
