Your life is subject to a multitude of rules. Whether it's the highway code, your rights as a student, your responsibilities as a youth leader...

But did you know that the simple act of buying a new mobile phone or sending an SMS is influenced by dozens of local, regional, national, European and even international rules?

By studying law, you learn to understand and apply the rules that influence your daily life and that of the world around you.

Droit études

They tell you about the law

The advantages of law at UNamur

  • Innovative pedagogy

The bachelier program is rooted in reality, in tune with the expectations of the "student generation". It's impossible not to give in to curiosity and enthusiasm during the many activities on offer!

  • The "fil rouge"

Each year, a theme is chosen to unite the entire Faculty around a shared topic that will be exploited in courses, framings, assignments and during cultural activities.
This "red thread" becomes the common thread that runs through most activities.

  • Law courses from the first year

From the very first year, you are in contact with legal realities (sources and principles of law, constitutional law and the law of obligations). From the outset, you'll have a clear vision of the study of law and your future career as a lawyer. You'll quickly get down to practical work: writing assignments, mock trials, pleading exercises and the possibility of an internship...

  • Support for success

At the start of the first year, we take stock of your initial skills with the "passports for the bac", then offer you the means to succeed: pedagogical accompaniments, exercises, monitorings, tutorials, November tests ... and as a bonus, special availability of teachers, assistants, the pedagogical coordinator and administrative staff as well as digital support.

  • The discovery of other disciplines

To fully understand the fields of application of law, the training opens you up to other disciplines such as economics, psychology, criminology or history. You can also choose options in a wide range of fields.

  • A double baccalaureate and additional training to access other masters

For the most motivated, it is possible, in an additional year, to obtain a double baccalaureate in law and philosophy

Complementary courses also provide direct access to masters in management sciences (at UNamur), masters in economics (at UNamur and UCLouvain) or political science (at UCLouvain).

  • A first experience of professional legal practice

Namur is rich in landmarks for future lawyers: the Palais de justice de Namur, the Parlement de Wallonie and the Prison de Namur open their doors to you every year.

To practice the art of rhetoric and argumentation, you can take part in the simulated trials organized at the Palais de Justice de Namur, as well as inter-university competitions in international humanitarian law and constitutional law.

During your internship at the end of your bachelor's degree, you will be in contact with lawyers, magistrates, notaries, bailiffs as well as in-house counsel. This experience familiarizes you with the concrete implementation of concepts seen in courses.

  • And languages?

Legal Dutch and English courses prepare you for legal terminology courses in these two languages. But, you can also take law courses in English or Dutch, a German course with legal vocabulary and take part in other activities to put your language skills into practice.

If you're not a French speaker, you can take part in French classes (around 30 hours) during the first two weeks of September.
