The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Namur is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in the field of pharmacology and pharmaceutical research. It organizes training programs covering pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, pharmaceutical analysis and medicinal chemistry. It also contributes to the continuing education of pharmacists in collaboration with the Société scientifique des pharmaciens francophones, and hosts the PHARMAFUN alumni association. Finally, it is committed to a training program focused on international openness, the implementation of a quality system and the integration of innovative pedagogies.

Research

Research areas focus on the design, chemical synthesis and biological evaluation of molecules of therapeutic interest. Interest is also focused on the physicochemical properties of new compounds.

Training

The Department of Pharmacy organizes the teaching of the bachelor's degree in pharmacy and participates in the training of biology students. It is responsible for training leading to the doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences, and teaches introduction to pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, pharmaceutical analysis and medicinal chemistry. In collaboration with the Société scientifique des pharmaciens francophones, the department plays an important role in the continuing education of pharmacists.

Challenges

In order to meet today's challenges, the Department of Pharmacy is embarking on a reform whose main thrusts are:

  • the development of international openness
  • the habilitation of a master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences
  • the implementation of a quality system
  • the initiation of a program-based approach
  • the exploitation of innovative pedagogies

NAB-X Biobank

As part of its university missions, the Department of Pharmacy has developed a structure, the NAB-X Biobank enabling human body material and in particular plasma and serum to be stored in optimal conditions in order to promote medical research.
