The Reform of Initial Teacher Training (RFIE) began in 2023. To become a teacher in sections 1 to 3 (from reception to secondary 3), students must now follow a 4-year course, organized by a high school (referent establishment) in co-graduation with one or more universities. The University of Namur co-organizes training courses with Hénallux (referent) and UCLouvain, as well as with IMEP for music teaching.

Teaching - Section 1

For what purpose?
To become a teacher for pupils from kindergarten reception class to 2nd primary.

How?
By following a bachelor's degree (3 years) followed by the master's degree (1 year) in teaching - section 1.

Registering?
Registration is via the referring establishment, namely Hénallux.

Teaching - Section 2

For what purpose?
To become a teacher for pupils from Kindergarten class 3 to primary class 6.

How?
By following a bachelor's degree (3 years) followed by the master's degree (1 year) in teaching - section 2.

Registering?
Registration is via the referring institution, namely Hénallux.

Teaching - Section 3

For what purpose?
To become a teacher in the desired discipline for students from primary 5th class to secondary 3rd, and for the discipline "Physical and Health Education" from kindergarten 3rd class to secondary 3rd.

How?
By following a bachelor's degree (3 years) followed by the master's degree (1 year) in teaching - section 3.

Registering?
Registration is via the referring institution, namely Hénallux.

Music education - Section 3

For what purpose?
To become a teacher for musical awakening, musical training and ensemble singing in music academies (ESAHR), music in day schools, for pupils from class 3rd primary to 3rd secondary.

How?
Taking a bachelor's degree (3 years) followed by the master's degree (1 year) in teaching - section 3.

Registering?
Registration is via the referring institution, namely IMEP.
