This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of pharmacology based on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Relevant molecules of pharmaceutical interest will be covered in this course.

Doelstellingen

The objective of this course is to understand the basic principles of pharmacology and the sciences that govern it. The link with other courses in the pharmaceutical curriculum will be frequently mentioned.

Inhoud

The main concepts of pharmacology will be covered: - Mode of action of drugs: general principles, molecular and cellular aspects - Methods and measurements in pharmacology - Concepts of ADME - Pharmacokinetics

Evaluatiemethode

Written examination in the form of short open-ended questions (SOQs) and/or MCQs Evaluation criteria: - understanding - reading graphics - knowledge of the medicines presented in the course (list to be known for the exam). The exact modalities of the assessment are subject to change when the examination timetable is being drawn up, depending on practical constraints that the faculty administration may face, or in case of illness/force majeure/emergency with a placement, or because of the health situation related to the coronavirus.
