Leerresultaten

To develop specialised knowledge in the field of economic and social history. To train in critical thinking and scientific reasoning.

Doelstellingen

This course aims to give students a better understanding of contemporary economic and social issues through their historical perspective. It aims not only to introduce students to the main lines of economic and social history, but also to make them aware of the temporal and spatial dimensions (and therefore the complexity) of social realities.

Inhoud

The course will present the main economic and social changes that have occurred since the end of the 18th century (Industrial Revolution). While the central part of the course relating to the long 19th century (1770-1914) will logically focus on Europe, the parts devoted to the earlier and later periods will adopt a broader geographical perspective.

Evaluatiemethode

In June and September, a two-hour closed-book written examination.
