Leerresultaten

At the end of the course, the student will be able to: 1. select the appropriate remote sensing data for a given application 2. Explain the main processes to be applied to this data (especially to images) 3. apply these treatments to an image 4. interpret an image and comment on the processing carried out.

Doelstellingen

1. Know how to use the different types of remote sensing data (focus on satellite images) and know their limits; 2. To know the main treatments to apply to remote sensing data (focus on images); 3. To be able to carry out these treatments using image processing software.

Inhoud

1. Physical basis of remote sensing 2. Vectors, sensors and data acquisition programs 3. Colour composition, contrast enhancement, spatial and spectral filters 4. Radiometric corrections 5. Geometric corrections 6. Classifications 7. Multispectral transformations 8. Methods of detecting change 9. Applications

Evaluatiemethode

Remote sensing is a difficult subject. To help you prepare for the exam, we have made the lab reports compulsory and failure to submit them will be penalised, both in the first and second sessions. The final score will be composed of 66% of the theoretical course (written exam) and 34% of a practical exam. Both exams will be held on the same day during the January session. The evaluation in the second session is similar to the one in January. All students who fail the first session must retake both parts of the examination, even if they passed one of the two parts in the first session. Finally, any unnecessary additions to the examination will be penalised. We ask you to answer only the question asked. We focus on interpretation, not technique.
