The research within the department is organized within the DeFiPP Research Institute, and is structured around three themes linked to Research Centers.

  • Development Economics, within the CRED
  • Regional Economics and Economic Policy, within the CERPE
  • Macroeconomics and Financial Economics, within the CEREFIM

Research activity, marked by the award of prestigious grants (ERC starting and advanced, Marie-Curie Fellowships, Mac Arthur Foundation, EOS,...), is distinguished by a body of publications in the best journals in the discipline, the regular organization of international thematic conferences, as well as the organization of a weekly external seminar.

The department also has numerous research collaborations with universities in Belgium (e.g. KUL, UCLouvain, etc.), Europe (e.g. Paris School of Economics, Aix-Marseille School of Economics, Toulouse School of Economics, etc.) and outside Europe (Kazakh-British Technical University in Kzakhstan, Université d'Abomey-Calavi and African School of Economic in Benin, University of Pretoria in South Africa, etc.).

The quality of research carried out within the Institute has thus enabled the training of young PhDs who have subsequently joined the best European universities on a permanent basis (including Paris, Geneva, Bergen, Bologna or Marseille).
