Internship
The student will have carried out an internship of a duration equivalent to 10 days in a professional environment linked to the production or breeding of animals (livestock, pets, wild animals) or the processing of products of animal origin. He/she will have understood the functioning of the farm/animal breeding and will have described and analysed it in a report (zootechnical, ethical, sociological, economic, ethological, sanitary aspects, ...). He/she will have learned the principles of restraint and handling of the animal species concerned by his/her training period. They will have reflected on their training and future professional life.
Seminars
The student benefits from an education that lasts for the 2nd and 3rd baccalaureate during which he/she attends seminars given by lecturers specialised in different fields that are related to veterinary medicine. The student will become acquainted with the many facets of the veterinary profession and will learn to take a critical attitude through debates and discussions with the lecturers.

Inhoud

Internship
Internship in a livestock farm, stud farm, zoo or animal park, animal shelter or slaughterhouse, ... . It is important that the student is actively involved (this is not an observation period).
The (unique) place of training and its content must be approved by the chairman of the admission panel or his representative.
Seminars
This course is given simultaneously to 2nd and 3rd year baccalaureate students. As students follow this course for two consecutive years, they have the opportunity to complete a full cycle. The seminars are given by external lecturers and are followed by a debate. The debate is prepared by a team of students in the second year of the seminar cycle on the basis of documents provided by the lecturer; they are supervised by one of the teachers who moderates the debate. The topics covered are ethics, ethology, sociology, human-animal relations, management, psychology and professional issues. After each seminar, the student writes a personal reflection sheet on the impact of each seminar on his or her knowledge and professional projects.

Evaluatiemethode

The evaluation of each of the two learning activities (LA) of the course (seminars taken over two years AND elective course: internship) takes place only once per academic year.
The Seminars SA is assessed at the end of the first semester. There is no second session for this SA. It is only assessed during the January assessment period. Each student is given a topic of veterinary interest on which he/she is expected to do some personal reflection in order to be able to make a presentation and argument, in the presence of fellow students and a supervisor, based on the lectures given, related readings and personal experience. The student will be expected to 'Reflect, Position and Argue' in relation to the topics covered in the lectures.
The Elective: Internship is assessed according to the internship schedule, i.e. after the internship is completed, the internship supervisor's assessment and the report submitted, either at the end of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd semester. The period will be determined by the student according to the progress of the placement. The student can only register for the assessment in one period. There is no second session. A report (template provided on Webcampus) serves as a basis for discussion with the jury.
The assessment (mark out of 20) is the sum of the 2 parts, if and only if each part is passed with a mark above 9/20.
