At the end of the course, the student should be able to (individually or in groups) • read and talk about a text related to his/her field of specialisation; • listen to and talk about a presentation on a subject related to their speciality ; • make an oral presentation, based on an article or various sources, prepared in advance.

Doelstellingen

The aim of the course is to be able to read non-specialised texts in the field of history and linguistics and to give presentations in this field. The teaching of Dutch has two main focuses: • the receptive axis, i.e. listening and reading comprehension of authentic texts and knowledge of the vocabulary needed to acquire this skill, • the productive axis, i.e. oral and written expression, which requires the use of a number of grammatical and lexical structures. In this course, written expression will not be assessed

Inhoud

The course will be articulated around different axes, which will be addressed in parallel: • Themes: The aim of these themes is to improve your reading/hearing comprehension skills and to familiarise you with historical vocabulary. Basic vocabulary is assumed to be known. • Presentations : The conversation sessions, which aim to improve your speaking skills, will be based on the Themes among others. • Basic Grammar will be reviewed in the course, in a systematic way

Evaluatiemethode

• Active participation in the course and personal work are subject to continuous assessment (10% of the final grade). • During the January assessment period, a written examination is held on the material already covered (30% of the final grade). Participation in this exam is compulsory. • During the second term: oral presentation in groups (10% of the final grade) • During the May-June assessment period, a written examination is held on the second semester's material (30% of the final grade), as well as an oral examination (20% of the final grade). • In the second session, the student represents only those parts for which he/she has obtained less than 50%.
