The conditions of access to 1st cycle studies are governed by articles 107 to 109 of the decree of November 7, 2013 defining the higher education landscape and the academic organization of studies.

Access qualifications

You must have one of the following Belgian access qualifications or equivalents:

  • The certificate of higher secondary education issued by a secondary education establishment of the French Community of Belgium (CESS);
  • A diploma issued by a higher education establishment of the French Community sanctioning an academic degree;
  • A higher education diploma issued by an educational establishment for social promotion;
  • An attestation of success in one of the admission examinations organized by higher education establishments or by a jury of the French Community. This attestation gives access to studies in the sectors, fields or courses it indicates;
  • A diploma, title or certificate of study similar to those mentioned above issued by the Flemish Community, the German-speaking Community or the Royal Military School;
  • A foreign diploma, title or certificate of study recognized as equivalent to those mentioned above;
  • A diploma of aptitude for access to higher education (DAES) conferred by the jury of the French Community ;
  • A decision, taken by the Government of the French Community of Belgium, attesting to the equivalence of the level of studies completed abroad to a level of studies sanctioned by the granting of an academic degree from the French Community.

When and how do I submit my application?

If you have completed or are about to complete your secondary education in Belgium, you have the opportunity to submit your application for admission until September 30.

Special cases - Medical and veterinary graduates

The procedure is different for bachelor of medicine students (entrance exam) and bachelor of veterinary medicine students (competitive exam at the end of the first bachelor year), depending on the student's status (resident or non-resident).

What does it mean to be a resident?

Resident student status involves a whole series of criteria that can be consulted below. If you are unable to prove that you are a "resident", you will be considered a "non-resident" student.
