The participants get an insight into the main strategies and tools for the prevention and treatment of disease states.

The participants get an insight into:

  1. the main types and principles of healthcare systems worldwide
  2. the multiple steps and key principles in the development of health technologies
  3. the basics of data and knowledge generation in healthcare
  4. the new innovation models and career opportunities in healthcare

The participants understand:

  1. the basic principles of healthcare economics and management
  2. the need for interdisciplinarity and convergence of medicine, life sciences and physical sciences, engineering and management, from basic research to patient-centric care, including (pre)clinical research, development of medicines and medical devices, healthcare organisation, management and economics



 

 

Objectifs

The objective of the course is to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to be able to face new challenges of precision patient-centric practice.

Basic knowledge of the interdisciplinary skills that will shape the future of medicine.

Understanding the respective roles of the different stakeholders in healthcare.

Unique opportunities to interact with experts and colleagues from a wide range of disciplines and environments.

A holistic vision of the complex processes that translate scientific advances into novel standards of care.



 

 

Contenu

The participants will follow 5 full-day sessions of lectures and debates (3 online, 2 on-site) on challenges and future transformations of medicine and healthcare systems:

  • Module 1 - Collaboration for innovation
  • Module 2 - Patient-centred clinical research
  • Module 3 - Healthcare Economics & Management
  • Module 4 - Sustainable Development - Universal access to health
  • Module 5 - Other big health challenges

Optionally, students can subscribe for the certificate track. To obtain the Certificate in Healthcare Innovation, applicants will also:

  • develop negotiation and presentation skills thanks to their participation in 2 active workshops with experts from the industry
  • develop in-depth knowledge on one topic of their choice
  • develop team spirit and cooperation
  • present their paperwork in front of an interdisciplinary jury

This collaborative work will take place in groups of 3-6 participants. Groups will be divided according to level of expertise (combination of master students, PhDs and/or postdoc or professional) and background (optimization of the group diversity according to participant registrations)

Méthodes d'enseignement

5 Friday sessions of 7h lectures (including one onsite Meet-the-expert day with inspiring leaders):

  • 1 on-site Opening session lectures, debates & chance to interact with healthcare leaders
  • 3 sessions of online lectures and debates on challenges and future transformations of medicine and healthcare system
  • 1 on-site Closing session: lectures & debates

(Mandatory) attendance to the I3h Annual Lecture (on-site) (usually at end of March)

For the certificate track, participants are also expected to take part in the following activities:

  • 1 Friday afternoon and 1 Saturday (80% attendance rate)
  • active case study preparation with their peers (groups 3-6 participants)
  • 30 minutes defence before an interdisciplinary jury

This extra curriculum represents a total of 24 hours of active contact

How to pass the ECTS track?

80% attendance and successfully pass the written online MCQ exam: (/100)

Participants are also welcomed to take an online quizz to test their knowledge at the end of the Program

 

How to obtain the “Certificate in healthcare innovation”?

  • Case study work (dissertation (/20)
  • Group oral presentation (/20)
  • Individual oral presentation (/20)
  • Peer-review assessment (/5): Criteria to assess: Active attitude, compliance with agreements, competence to collaborate in group, writing of the case study report. Each criterium is scored from 1 to 5.

Total mark for the certificate: (/65)

The exact evaluation methods are subject to changes depending on the practical constraints (for the tests on computer in particular).
