A major breakthrough for the health of women on oral contraceptives has been achieved by researchers in Namur. Every year in Europe, more than 22,000 cases of venous thrombosis or embolism occur among contraceptive pill users. A team of researchers from the University of Namur, in collaboration with QUALIblood (spin-off), has conducted an important study, the results of which could transform prescribing recommendations..

The Covid-19 pandemic is a human tragedy that has caused millions of deaths worldwide and put our entire society under great strain. But it has also been a tremendous collective moment for many UNamur scientists, whose research continues in an attempt to better understand this disease and its consequences.

The three Belgian scientific experiments selected to be carried out on board the International Space Station (ISS) during astronaut Raphaël Liégeois' mission in 2026 have just been unveiled by the Federal Science Policy Public Service (Belspo). One of them is carried by a team from UNamur for an experiment at the crossroads of biology and physics aimed at analyzing the resistance of the "blob", an atypical unicellular organism.

On May 10, 2025, Vice-Rector Carine Michiels and Professor Anne-Catherine Heuskin handed over UNamur's cheque at the grand closing evening of Operation Télévie, which this year raised a record €13,351,977 for the Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique. Télévie funds are used entirely to finance cancer research projects at universities in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

In an ever-changing world, where health, environmental and societal crises are intertwined, it is becoming imperative to rethink health in a global and interconnected approach. It was against this backdrop that the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Namur inaugurated its new "One Health" teaching unit (UE) on Thursday February 06, 2025, in the presence of Minister Yves Coppieters. Research seminar co-organized by Louis Carré and Sabina Tortorella as part of the activities of the Esphin Institute, the Department of Philosophy, and the Arcadie Center as well as the Marie Skłodowska-Curie SOCIAL project This seminar sets out to explore contemporary uses of Hegel's practical thought as well as to question its relevance and legacy. Themes central to recent philosophical debates, such as globalization, race, feminism and the Anthropocene, as well as contemporary challenges facing philosophical reflection - such as social justice and ecological transition, state sovereignty in the face of international markets and the emergence of supranational subjects, or the crisis of democracy in the face of the rise of populism and the return of war - may call for a mobilization of Hegelian thought. The aim of this seminar is not necessarily to propose a strictly historical-philosophical reading of Hegelian thought, but rather to seek to take Hegel beyond Hegel himself, by engaging in a reflection on problematics that find their first formulation in him, but that have developed far beyond his conceptual framework, or by questioning his concepts from perspectives that do not necessarily lay claim to Hegelianism. The aim of this approach is to bring Hegel's thought into dialogue with other philosophical traditions and currents of political philosophy, in order to question its ability to shed light on some of the major issues of our time. By questioning its topicality and limitations, this seminar aims to examine what practical Hegelian philosophy can still offer us today, and how it enables us to question our own problems from a renewed angle. This platform, SHS Impulse, will provide various services such as financial support for training, consultancy, access to resources, or co-financed software purchases.
