Our Values
Based in the Walloon capital, the University of Namur places people at the heart of its priorities. This human dimension is the thread that unites the values inherited from the Jesuit tradition: openness, excellence, sustainability, and freedom.
Openness
The University of Namur affirms its commitment to openness to the world in its missions of creating and transmitting knowledge, as well as in its approach to relationships with others.
Excellence
The University of Namur strives for excellence in each of its missions, through a resolutely human approach that embodies closeness, solidarity, and respect.
Freedom
The University of Namur defends the freedom of opinion of its members. This is based on the autonomy and responsibility of individuals. It fosters collective intelligence, the creation of knowledge, and innovation.
Sustainability
The University of Namur seeks to be a responsible contributor to the building of a society that is sustainable environmentally, socially, and institutionally. It strives for the personal development of each of its members: students, researchers, faculty, and staff.
Our Vision
An initial strategic plan, "Univers 2025," was established in 2021 by the University Council and is centered around five key objectives—developing the university, advancing the digital transition, driving sustainable development, strengthening internationalization, and ensuring quality of life on campus—as well as a series of concrete actions. The new "Univers 2029" strategic plan adds four key drivers: innovation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, reputation, and financial sustainability.
Institutional positioning
Through a committed and forward-looking institutional approach, the University of Namur, guided by an ambitious strategic plan, integrates environmental, social, and economic principles into all its activities. These activities are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The university’s gender and diversity policy reflects its deep commitment to equality and inclusion. The pursuit of excellence is reflected in a commitment to providing state-of-the-art resources and services to ensure quality in teaching, research, and institutional services. Furthermore, ethics is a fundamental value that guides the university’s actions.
By combining these elements, the University of Namur embodies a model of holistic excellence, where a commitment to sustainability, equality, quality, the future, and ethics converges to form a dynamic and progressive academic community.
