The CleanAirBouw project brings together researchers and experts from France, Wallonia, and Flanders around a shared goal: to improve the quality of the air we breathe inside buildings.
Through this cross-border partnership, new solutions for indoor air treatment and monitoring are being developed, along with scientific support to establish common standards between France and Belgium.

A Challenge for Schools: The “Clean Air Challenge”

Because indoor air quality (IAQ) affects us all—especially children—this project offers a major school challenge for students ages 6 to 11.
We spend an average of 85% of our time indoors, yet indoor air can be up to eight times more polluted than outdoor air. This challenge aims to help children understand the issues surrounding IAQ and, in turn, become ambassadors for clean air in their schools and families!

  • When?

During the 2026–2027 school year

  • Who can participate?

Up to two classes of students aged 6 to 11 per school, in Hauts-de-France, Wallonia, and Flanders.

  • How does it work?

Workshop 1 (September–December 2026)
A session lasting about 1 hour to explore indoor air quality using fun, interactive materials.
Each class will receive an educational kit containing a CO₂ and pollutant sensor, and an IAQ monitoring tool.

Workshop 2 (January – May 2027)
Together, we’ll analyze the results and build a simplified air purification system, constructed by the students themselves!

Closing Day (June 2027)
A grand awards ceremony will bring together all participating schools.
Several awards will be presented: best air quality, most significant improvement, and the most creative awareness-raising initiatives.

Participation is completely free! All costs are covered by the project.
