Reading Comprehension (B2+)
In general reading comprehension, the learner...
• can read with a high degree of autonomy, adjusting the mode and speed of reading to different scientific texts in the medical field.
• possesses a broad and active reading vocabulary but may encounter difficulties with infrequent expressions.
Reception Strategies
Recognizing clues and making deductions:
• Can use different types of connectors (numeric, temporal, logical) and the role of key paragraphs in the overall organization of the text to better understand the argumentation.
• Can extrapolate the meaning of a passage from a text, taking the entire text into account.
• Can identify unfamiliar words with the help of context on topics related to their field and interests.
• Can occasionally extrapolate the meaning of unfamiliar words from context and deduce the meaning of the sentence, provided the subject matter is familiar.
The aim of this course is to enable the student to reach a B2+ level in reading comprehension on subjects related to their bachelor's degree. At the end of the teaching sessions, the student will be capable of understanding a scientific article in the medical field (B2+ level).

Refer to the exercise book (MCME) and course materials on WebCampus.
• The final grade will be based on a written exam in the January session (50%) and a written exam in the June session (50%). A grade of 10/20 is required for each of the two parts to pass the course. If either part is not passed, the final grade will be capped at 9/20.
• The January written exam will cover material from the first semester: MCME book (vocabulary, grammar, translation) + reading (new text(s)).
• The June written exam will cover material from the second semester (articles: vocabulary, translations) and reading a new article.
• In case of failure in June (final grade less than 10/20), the student must retake the part(s) for which they did not achieve 10/20 (the January exam and/or the June exam). There will be no partial carryover of grades from one academic year to the next.
