On the occasion of the 30th edition of the Festival International Nature de Namur (FINN), the University of Namur, partner of this event, reaffirms its commitment to environmental awareness by combining science and art. Researchers from UNamur's Departments of Biology and Physics have conducted a scientific experiment to assess the radioresistance of the common black ant Lasius niger. The results of their work have just been published in the Belgian scientific journal Belgian Journal of Zoology. The Namur-based scientists demonstrate a level of resistance far superior to that of humans. Their spontaneous approach also demonstrates a lesser-known approach to scientific research.

The IPCC warns of the growing impact of global warming on water, with more frequent droughts and floods threatening global supplies. By 2050, 42% of river basins will be severely affected, and flood damage could quadruple in the event of 4°C warming. Although they bear little responsibility, the most vulnerable populations suffer the worst consequences. In Wallonia, recent climatic disasters and water pollution illustrate the stakes. Professor Elio Tuci has just been awarded Research Credit funding from the FNRS. The naXys institute specializes in the analysis of complex systems, whether in astronomy and dynamic cosmology, mathematical biology, optimization in optics, economic complexity or the study of the stability and robustness of these systems. The institute is structured around 6 research axes: Space, Bio, Optics, Eco, Robust and Robotics.

Gabriel Dias De Carvalho Junior adds his expertise in didactics and cognitive psychology to the physics didactics research unit of UNamur's Department of Physics. With almost two decades of teaching experience in Brazil, he works to improve teaching practices. His innovative projects aim to make teaching more inclusive and accessible, while establishing international collaborations.
