From March 31 to April 4, 2025, a Belgian delegation, including UNamur Rector Annick Castiaux, took part in a royal mission to Vietnam aimed at strengthening economic, academic and scientific ties between the two countries. The mission was punctuated by several milestone events highlighting UNamur's fruitful collaborations with Vietnamese institutions.

Presentations Romain Deleu (Geology): Hydrodynamics of solute transport in karst conduits: assessment by multi-point dye tracing and numerical modellingJustine Bélik (Biology): Can DNA methylation predict the age of a self-fertilizing vertebrate species?

will take place from September 2 to 6, 2024 at the Gîte du domaine d'Haugimont (owned by the University of Namur) and will deal with medieval manuscripts in their material and historical aspects (parchment and ink manufacture). The event is aimed at historians, archaeologists and researchers in the physical and chemical sciences. Participation is free for doctoral students attached to FNRS doctoral schools in the disciplines concerned. At the crossroads of archaeology, history and the exact sciences, this colloquium-workshop will give the floor to three speakers (a physicist, a chemist and a historian) who will present the interdisciplinary research they are conducting together in this field. Workshops on parchment reproduction, inks and writing materials will be held each day.More information on the event .

With oral and poster presentations by ILEE affiliates. Students and young researchers are particularly invited to present their research and practice their presentation skills in English. The day is also important for ILEE members as it enables them to keep abreast of ongoing projects in different disciplines and to foster collaboration.At the end of the day, the annual general meeting of all members will take place with a summary of the past year's activities and achievements.We are honored to announce that Arnaud Péters, PhD in history and founder of sites_H, will be the keynote speaker!

The F.R.S.-FNRS has just published the results of its various 2024 calls. Equipment calls, research credits and projects, FRIA doctoral grants and Mandant d'Impulsion Scientifique (MIS), there are many instruments to support fundamental research. Find out more about UNamur's results.

His long-term collaboration with Dr. Aniruddha Chatterjee recently resulted in the first collaborative framework agreement between the University of Otago and UNamur, as well as an international Erasmus+ (EU) credit mobility funding this scientific mission. Frédéric Silvestre deepened his understanding of the advanced DNA methylation techniques employed by Dr. Chatterjee's team, including their bioinformatics workflows and innovative approach to epigenetic editing. He has given several seminars presenting LEAP's research on mangrove rivulus and turquoise molefish. He also presented at the Australasian Epigenetic Alliance conference and had the opportunity to explore potential new collaborations with other departments, including zoology, sustainable development, chemistry and marine sciences.

Quentin Willot (Biology) has just joined URBE for a two-year post-doctoral position (Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action, supervisor: Alice Dennis) on a project called ChillAnts. This project focuses on the study of adaptation to extreme temperatures in holarctic (trans-Beringian) ant species, from a physiological, ecological and evolutionary point of view. Quentin will present a more technical aspect of his work (Thermal Death Time Curve Modelling).

A delegation from the Université de Namur took part in an exploratory mission to the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) in Dakar, Senegal. The aim: to discover the research carried out in the field, meet UCAD researchers and initiate future collaborations between the two institutions.
