Transfer to Namur

How to organize your transfer from the airports to Namur.

From Brussels National Airport (BRU)

University of Namur parking lots

You can request a free parking pass from Mme Pauline Antoine (pauline.antoine@unamur.be). The parking lot where you will be allowed to park your vehicle is located rue Henri Lemaître.

Parking in the city

Many parking zones, with different and complicated rules and rates, are defined throughout the city. All the details are explained here

You can ask to pay for a resident's card at the commune. For example, this card costs €80 per year in parking meter zones and €10 in blue zones. Find out more

Driving licenses

Driving licenses issued in the following countries (see link below) are not recognized in Belgium. If your driving license was issued in one of these countries, you must exchange it at the Town Hall (Driving License Service).

You must:

  • be registered in Belgium;
  • be in possession of your Belgian identity card;
  • have obtained your driving license before arriving in Belgium.
  • Cost: €25.

Register your car in Belgium!

Only in the event that you had your own car before your arrival and wish to use it during your stay in Belgium.

The procedure is as follows:

To be able to register your car, you must be entered in the National Register, which implies having a national registration number.

Here are the documents required for imported European vehicles:

  • The registration certificate (US: car license number certificate) from the country of origin.
  • It is advisable to have the European certificate of conformity (in copy, with the application)
  • The purchase invoice (in copy, with the application)

Procedure:

1. Pay customs duties (label 705). Here's the number for Brussels customs.

2. Go to the vehicle safety inspection for a technical inspection (UK: MOT).

3. Affix the insurer's sticker and signature to the registration application.

To present to the DIV office with the registration application:

  • The original registration certificate from the country of origin
  • It is advisable to have the certificate of conformity (in copy, with the application)
  • The purchase invoice (in copy, with the registration application)

You have the option of sending the documents by post, bearing in mind that there will be a delay of around two weeks, or dropping them off directly at a DIV office counter. Getting around Namur

Public transport

The vast majority of shops and services are within walking distance in or near the city center. However, if you need to stray further from the center, for example to access hospitals or larger supermarkets, buses are at your disposal. There is no streetcar or metro network in Namur, so buses are the way to get around by public transport.

Li bia vélo

This is a service offered by the municipal administration to enable anyone to rent bicycles. There are around twenty locations spread throughout the town center and surrounding area, and at each of these locations you can rent a bike at a very reasonable price. Cambio (car-sharing)

This car-sharing system is well established in Namur. After registering, you can rent a car at one of the various stations or stopping points in Namur, but also anywhere in Belgium. Find out more
