The student must be able to identify the economic, social, political and media logics that govern the functioning of the main mass media and be able to dismantle them in an analytical, critical, historical and prospective manner. The student must have an understanding of the ways in which these media operate, both from a macro and micro perspective. In this context, the student must be able to discern the main actors and components in a precise manner.
-socio-economic, socio-political and socio-cultural logics in a transhistorical, analytical and prospective perspective - socio-political environment of the media -external socio-economic structures of the media (ownership structures, crossinterests, concentration and internationalisation phenomena) -actors (global, regional groups, European and Belgian actors) -internal socio-economic structures of the media (economic logics of costs and revenues, public aids, evaluation of demand...) -development strategies of the media
The evaluation consists of two parts: 1- An oral examination on the theoretical part of the course, based on a complete and critical knowledge of the content of the course. This corresponds to 3/4 of the final mark. 2- A written assignment based on the reading of a book from the course bibliography is required of all students. It will be discussed during the oral exam. It corresponds to1/4 of the final grade.
