UNamur's projects think about the issue of aging well in a plural and interdisciplinary way, which considers the different ages of seniors' lives and also takes into account the entourage having to cope with accompanying a parent or spouse who has become less autonomous.

The project

"We can't stop ourselves from aging, but we can find solutions to live actively and in good health for as long as possible." With this in mind, in 2016 UNamur set up the "Ageing well, it's not cinema" campaign, sponsored by actor Benoît Poelvoorde and his mom Jacqueline Pappaert and aimed at promoting scientific research into ageing and the diseases associated with it.

The team

These projects are led by members of UNamur's GRIVES, a platform bringing together researchers in sociology (N. Burnay, N. Rigaux), biology (F. Chainiaux), ethics (L. Ravez), computer science (V. Englebert), law (N. Colette-Basecqz), mathematics (E. Cornélis), psychology (M. Desseilles)... providing teaching, research or services focused on older people and aging.

Your donations in action

Thanks to your donations, additional funds have been provided to scientists studying the challenges of aging and the role played by family caregivers, in order to encourage better consideration of these realities in our society. Donations have also funded the Silverkit research project, led by the Faculty of Computer Science in collaboration with several players in the field (homecare association, patient association, seniors' university). Silverkit aims to develop a platform enabling digital applications to adapt automatically to their users, whatever problems they encounter with age (impaired vision, less precise dexterity, failing memory...) or in the context of degenerative pathologies (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's...).
