The students will learn the main classes of antibiotics, their mechanism of action, mechanisms of resistance, how to discover/design antibiotics, and alternatives to antibiotic use (e.g. phage therapy)
Give an overview of the main types of antibiotics, their mechanism, their pharmacology, the problem of antibiotic resistance and perspectives to face the antibiotic resistance crisis.
1. Molecular mechanisms of antibiotics and resistance.

3. Discovery and design of new antibiotics.

At the last session, each student will be asked to present in 10 minutes a project of their choice (related to the content of the course), followed by a 10 minutes discussion with the other students and the professor. The project will account for 70 % of the final grade and the participation in the course and in the discussion of the project presentation of other students accounts for 30% of the final grade.
