The student acquires the skills necessary to carry out scientific work independently.
Building on the skills acquired in the previous years of study, the BA paper in German (socio)linguistics enables students to improve their skills in
- the selection of a research topic and the precise formulation of one or more research questions;
- bibliographical research in relation to the research topic chosen by the student in consultation with his/her supervisor;
- analysis and synthesis of scientific literature in relation to a research topic;
- the development of a research or analysis methodology in line with the research questions and the scientific literature ;
- the correct use of bibliographic references in the text and the composition of a bibliography;
- writing a scientific text in German.
For issues related to the preparation and the supervision of the BA paper, see "teaching methods".
In consultation with his/her supervisor, the student chooses a theme which he/she develops and deepens in a personal and original way. The student establishes a timetable for the synthesis of the scientific literature, the definition and implementation of the methodology, and the different stages of the writing process.
The teaching assistant (Emma Joveneau) will help students with any language questions they may have.
The TFC is part of the continuity of both the academic and target language training offered in Germanic Languages and Humanities and is part of our policy of individual and differentiated support. Thus, the student is prepared for bibliographic research before the TFC by a training course specially designed for students in Germanic Languages and Literature by the Moretus Plantin University Library, followed in Bloc 2, whose reference material remains available throughout the course and he/she is supervised during the TFC by the promoter in addition to being able to benefit from the library's "Book a librarian" service.
For methodological and writing aspects, students are prepared through courses and exercises in Bloc 2 aimed at the development of academic writing, analysis and critical reflection and the methodological initiation to scientific research. During the academic year of the TFC, the student is supervised by the promoter on an individual basis. In addition, the student receives feedback on the different stages of the research work, from the heuristic phase to the second essay.
The teaching assistant (Emma Joveneau) will help students with any language questions they may have.
The TFE is assessed according to the achievement of its objectives (as defined above). In addition to the scientific content and the personal and critical contribution of the student to the research, the quality and relevance of the written formulation (including references and bibliographic conventions) are also assessed (see document on WebCampus for further details).
During the writing phase, the use of AI will be approached from both a productive and critical point of view. The use of AI will not be accepted during the oral part.
The expected level of written competence in the target language is C1 according to the CEFR*, applied to an academic register. * https://rm.coe.int/16802fc3a8
