Learning outcomes

To gain a better understanding of the mechanisms of cancer development through the study of genetic and biological mechanisms. Understand the notion of tumours and tumour environment as well as how to develop new treatment strategies.

Content

The genetic and molecular characteristics of cancers will be studied. The influences of the microenvironment as well as the adaptation of tumour cells in response to treatment will be studied. Different aspects will be addressed such as immunology, metabolism, epigenetics, personalized medicine and early cancer diagnosis. There will also be a section on the management of cancer patients.

Assessment method

Oral presentation with a ppt of a subject which was not discussed during the lecture, in relation to scientific articles, and in front of all the other students. Questions in relation to the course and the presentation will be asked.
