The student should be able to: 1) understand the major cell signalling pathways leading to the control of many cellular responses (growth, division, differentiation, death,...) 2) distinguish the main types of cell death (apoptosis, autophagy, necroptosis, etc.)
To provide master's level physics students with the basic concepts, tools and techniques used in Cell Biology in the field of signalling, differentiation and cell death, particularly in the context of cancer.
Cell growth and differentiation and their normal and pathological control. Signal transduction pathways from stimulus perception (receptor) to regulation of gene expression that are responsible for the adapted cellular response. Apoptosis, autophagy: mechanisms and regulations.
Face-to-face oral examination (with preparation time).
Chapters from the book "Karp's Cellular and Molecular Biology". 4th edition (Iwasa and Marshall, ed deboeck) Book chapters: The Cell
