Learning outcomes

At the end of this module, students:

- will demonstrate advanced and contemporary knowledge in the field of Molecular and Cellular Biology (on topics selected for their biomedical relevance)

- will be able to identify, integrate and discuss the most relevant scientific data related to a research question that has been studied by a combination of scientific approaches

Goals

To acquire an advanced level of knowledge in the field of Molecular and Cellular Biology (with the focus placed on topics relevant to the biomedical sciences sector).

To become independent in the assessment of Molecular and Cellular research questions, as well as in the interpretation and integration of scientific data related to these questions.

Content

Detailed and up-to-date studies of selected topics in modern molecular and cellular biology, focusing on current researches with biomedical relevance. The content of the course will be redefined annually, based on recently published high impact research articles. Examples of specific topics: signal transduction pathways, metabolism, extracellular matrices and interacting proteins, organelle membrane contact-sites, protein structure-function analysis, exosomes/microvesicles, subcellular trafficking in neuronal cells, …

Assessment method

- Preparation of a scientific poster (written assignment). Oral evaluation. Of note, peer assessment is part of the evaluation process.

P.S. Evaluation methods are susceptible to be modified if practical considerations have to be taken into account by the administration during exam scheduling, depending on the evlution of the COVID-19 crisis, or if a student cannot be present the day of the examination (for example, due to an illness).
