Written Production:

Goals

The main objective of this course is oral production with and without interaction. The target level is B2/B2+.

Content

The course offers various activities aimed at actively participating in a conversation or debate in a small group and presenting a short oral presentation. Some of the activities are also designed to improve comprehension of subject-related language and listening comprehension.

Teaching methods

The first semester will be reserved for building confidence and developing communication skills in interaction. Before each session, the student will be asked to prepare a section of the material which will serve as a basis for supervised oral expression. Oral activities will be carried out in small groups under the supervision of the teacher. The second semester will be devoted to structured oral presentations. After theoretical coaching on presentation issues and techniques, each student will have to present his or her own oral communication on a topic preferably related to his or her field of specialisation.

Assessment method

Continuous assessment throughout the year, incorporating the following components:

  • Q1 (45%) = Collaborative game “The words I need in…” (5%) + Written examination in January on Q1 material (40%)
  • Q2 (55%) = Mandatory oral presentation & abstract (35%) /+ Oral examination during the June session (20%)

The weighting of the different components is indicative. The final grade will also take into account the following considerations:

  • Non-completion of any component in Q1 or Q2 will automatically result in a failing grade.
  • The oral presentation must be delivered in Q2; otherwise, it cannot be remedied in the resit session.
  • Active participation in class, as well as the demonstrated potential for success in further learning, will influence rounding and may adjust the final mark.

In the event of failure, grades obtained in successfully completed components may be carried over to the resit session, but not to the following academic year.

Important note: Please be aware that successful completion of this course unit does not in itself confer certification.
