STUDIES
The German Section organizes courses in German language and literature (Bachelor and PhD). The student has to combine them with studies in English or Dutch language and literature. He/she also will be instructed in philosophy, in history and in history of arts.
RESEARCH
The Sectiont covers several research areas: sociolinguistics (analyses of language-practice in lower social classes and alphabeticalization), synchronic linguistics of modern german, the passive voice, linguistics of 16th century; German literature of the "Age of Goethe" (1780 to 1830), german speaking literature of 20th century, comparative literature: orient versus occident, theory and practice of edition, the 'retheatralization' of theatre at the turn of the century (1900).
