Understand the main concepts of evolutionary theory from historical aspects to molecular mechanisms. To be able to discuss and argue in groups about evolutionary issues
Every biologist must be able to understand the mechanisms of the evolution of species, from an organismic and molecular point of view. This course aims to provide the keys to understanding the modern issues related to the theory of evolution.
Partim Frédéric Silvestre: - evolution in 4 dimensions - realized inheritance - epigenetic inheritance Partim Karine Van Doninck: - evolution of genomes - adaptation and evolution of reproduction patterns - sexual selection and sex determinism
Oral presentation of one (or more) article(s), by groups of two students (or alone), before the whole group (in January).
- Evolution from Nick Barton et al. - The evolution of sex determination (Leo W. Beukeboom & Nicolas Perrin) - Evolution in four dimensions (Jablonka and Lamb) - The epigenetics revolution (Carey) - Transformations of Lamarckism (Gissis and Jablonka)
