Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to read, analyse and interpret a Middle French text in its original form, placing it correctly in its historical and literary context.

Content

The course begins with an introduction that provides the linguistic rudiments needed to tackle texts in Middle French. This is followed, depending on the year, by a study of a text or a selection of extracts representative of the literary output of the late Middle Ages and/or the Renaissance. Each work studied is placed in its literary and historical context, and the text is the subject of in-depth analysis and commentary.
