Goals

- Translating and philologically analysing an Old French text

- Identify the most important authors and texts of medieval literature in Old French

Content

Lhis course is devoted to the linguistic and literary study of a text or anthology of texts, which varies from year to year. After a linguistic introduction illustrating the specific features of Old French, attention is focused on the selected text or extracts, which are read, translated and commented on from a linguistic, philological and literary point of view. This approach also provides an opportunity to reflect on a number of issues relating to medieval literature (the notion of author, the relationship between orality and writing, the 'active' transmission of texts, the notion of 'manuscripture', the identification of literary genres, the problems posed by critical editing, etc.).

Assessment method

Examen oral.
