Oral interaction: The student can understand and exchange relatively complex information and opinions on a wide range of topics related to his/her professional role. He/she can also linguistically manage a negotiation to find a solution to a conflict situation or to present his/her reasons for obtaining compensation. He can also participate with ease in a job interview and develop his ideas, as well as give a clear and detailed presentation on a subject related to his discipline. Finally, he has acquired a clear and natural pronunciation and intonation. Written production: The student is able to write a structured text in response to a job offer. He/she can also write an essay or report that develops an argument in a methodical way, with appropriate emphasis on important points and relevant supporting details. Vocabulary: The student is now able to use a varied and useful vocabulary in the world of work. He/she is able to vary his/her wording to avoid frequent repetition, although some gaps may still lead to the use of periphrases.
This course aims to familiarise the student with the English used in the professional sphere. It aims at a B2+ level in this particular context and proposes to the student to focus on the skills he/she still wishes to develop as a priority by defining his/her personal objectives at the beginning of his/her individualised course.
The course is a toolbox from which the student will be invited to choose the micro-modules that he/she still wishes to deepen in order to make him/her successful in the world of work. The activities proposed aim to perfect oral expression in a professional context (discussions, role-playing, oral communication, simulated interviews), extend vocabulary related to professional life, eliminate recurrent grammatical errors, improve writing skills, prepare a CV and a covering letter. All materials are available on webcampus and can be selected according to personal choice.
Each chosen module will be assessed in writing or orally in the January session (note that some tasks are due in December). The mark for each module will be an equal part of the final result. • Maths: 4 modules to choose from (20%/module) + 3-day stay in London and report or personal work (20%) Failure to submit a module assessment will result in automatic failure.
