In view of the different levels of knowledge in German, differentiated teaching is organised from the first year: a beginner/elementary level for which no pre-requisites are required a medium level, which includes students with at least two years of German. Each level has a receptive component (listening and reading comprehension) and a productive component (written expression) according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The students will gradually become familiar with the basic structures and grammar of German corresponding to the needs of a speaker in a communicative perspective according to the themes, texts and language behaviours addressed. The course aims at acquiring a basic vocabulary sufficient to enable students to read non-specialised press texts and to express themselves coherently in everyday situations
In view of the different levels of ability in German, differentiated teaching is organised from the first year. The teaching is adapted according to the students' starting knowledge. A beginner level is organised for which no prerequisites are required. The aim of the German course is to enable all students to acquire at the end of Block 1 at least level A1/A2 according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) from a receptive point of view (reading and listening comprehension) and from a productive point of view (written expression) in order to continue learning German and to reach a level B1 /B1+ depending on the course of study taken after Block 1. There is no placement test at the beginning of the year. Students are divided into two groups by the teacher in charge according to their starting knowledge. Students will gradually become familiar with the basic structures and grammar of German that corresponds to the needs of a speaker in a communicative perspective according to the themes, texts and language behaviours addressed. The course aims at acquiring a basic vocabulary sufficient to enable students to read non-specialised press texts and to express themselves coherently in everyday situations.
In Block 1, according to a programme communicated at the beginning of the year by the teacher, students will have: • learning basic grammatical rules • Learning the basic vocabulary of everyday life • An introduction to and training in oral and written expression with reasonable fluency and accuracy • An introduction to reading authentic texts • Familiarisation with listening to short texts.
30% of the overall grade is allocated to continuous assessment and a test organised in December. The practical arrangements will be specified via WebCampus as the Coronavirus health crisis develops. 70% of the overall grade will be awarded on the basis of a final written and oral examination during the June session based on the material covered during the year (vocabulary, grammar, structures). An examination similar to the June session is organised in August/September for students who have obtained a mark lower than 10/20 in the first session. It is counted for 100% of the overall mark and covers all the material of the year.
