Modelling the Universe to understand how it came into being, how it works and how the physical objects that make it up work - that's the day-to-day work of the researchers in the naXys SPACE cluster. It's a subject that fascinates not only scientists. An international conference on "Complex Planetary Systems (CPSII)" is being organised at UNamur from 3 to 7 July 2023, with activities open to the public, including two round tables, a show at the Delta and a Space Quiz!

Physics & Challenges (Physique & Défis in French), a seminar course initiated by Professor Jim Plumat in 2013 at UNamur as part of the PUNCH projects, is organised in the form of a research project. This year, a partnership has been set up with the Haute École de la Province de Namur (HEPN) for a practical systemic training course with an original pedagogical approach.

This summer, Kevin will take up his post as president of the UNamur General Assembly of students (AGE). Aged 22, he is a master's student in physics and knows the Namur campus well. Over the past five years, he has taken on several roles: course delegate, student administrator, member of the AGE bureau, member of the Sciences Review and of a project dormitory, as well as culture and communication delegate. This week, the UNamur hosted the General Assembly of the Presidents and Deans of the Kircher Network, the network of Jesuit higher education institutions in Europe and the Middle East. At the same time, an ERASMUS+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) was held, an international training course for staff members of the network. At UNamur's NARILIS Institute, the 'Stress and AGEing' (SAGE) research group, led by Professor Florence Chainiaux, is seeking to understand the biological processes involved in ageing, focusing on the interconnection between exposure to stress and cellular senescence.

Catherine Michaux, a qualified FNRS researcher, is a partner in the European MSCA-Doctoral Network PROSTAMET project. The special feature of this project is that it funds both research and the training of 9 doctoral students within a network of multidisciplinary experts.

A cyber-attack occurs every 39 seconds worldwide. And the commercial losses caused by cybercrime are estimated to exceed 5,000 billion dollars by 2024. At a time when the fight against this type of crime represents a fundamental challenge for society, the Master students in Management were challenged to find innovative solutions to raise awareness of cybersecurity among audiences identified as being vulnerable. It was a realistic and ambitious exercise, as the students had to work for a client: DNS Belgium, which administers the .be, .vlaanderen and .brussels domain names. Organised in the form of a challenge, the exercise was supervised by managers from DNS Belgium, IBM and academics from UNamur. Focus on the three winning projects!

On 15 and 16 July, as part of the Gallo-Roman Rendezvous, the Specularia research project, run by the University of Namur and the Malagne Archaeopark, will be put through its paces in Malagne. This unique and exceptional experiment will give visitors a hands-on opportunity to discover what experimental archaeology is all about and to witness the different stages in the production of Roman window glass. This life-size experiment is part of the second phase of the Spécularia research project led by Géraldine Frère, a doctoral researcher in archaeology at the Institut Patrimoines, Transmissions, Héritages (PaTHs).

From 16 August, UNamur will be opening its doors to students who have completed their secondary education and are preparing to follow a university course at UNamur. This is an opportunity for them to follow a real revision programme and discover the university campus.

Carried out in collaboration with the NADI research institute of the University of Namur, the Pôle Académique de Namur, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and the Royal Association of Engineers of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech ULg and 200 associations internationally (117 countries), the sixth edition of the Gender Scan survey measures the evolution of feminisation in the technology and digital sector. The survey was conducted for the first time in Belgium among female students (higher education) to measure the level of satisfaction of female students in these fields.
