At the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Identify, analyse and explain some phenomena of diachronic, diatopic, diastatic and diaphasic variation in the Spanish language. 2. Construct precise definitions of the theoretical concepts used. 3. To think in pragmatic and semantic terms about the different realisations of certain linguistic variables. 4. To know and master the canonical tools and bibliographic references of Spanish linguistics.
This course combines, in a descriptive grammar perspective, a lexical, phonological, morphosyntactic and pragmatic approach to the Castilian language and its variation. The whole course articulates theoretical sessions and exercises in order to apprehend different linguistic problems of Spanish, considered both in its historical and synchronic dimensions.
Lecture (15 hours) and exercises (15 hours). Active participation of students is required.
January: a theoretical written exam and group work. Active and relevant participation in the exercise sessions will be valued in the final grade. August: a theoretical written exam and the written version of the group work (in case of failure in January). The weighting and assessment criteria will be presented in class at the beginning of the year and will be available on Webcampus.
The different materials will be posted on Webcampus throughout the semester.
