Recognized as a Site of Great Biological Interest (SGIB) by the Walloon Region for its forest area and pastures, the Domaine d'Haugimont contributes to reinforcing the region's ecological network. Numerous initiatives aim to enhance the flourishing of plant and animal biodiversity in the various areas of the estate.
The Domaine d'Haugimont has been recognized as a Site of Great Biological Interest (SGIB) by the Walloon Region.The portal de la biodiversité en Wallonie lists on the Haugimont site:
- 13 biotopes of biological interest
- 8 protected animal species (birds and mammals)
- 9 rare plant species.
E-biom carried out in 2023:
- an ornithological survey using listening points,
- a survey of chance observations of wildlife passage,
- a study of the fauna present using methods based on molecular biology.
As a result of these inventories, the following were identified:
- 35 bird species
- 8 bat species
- The following threatened species:
- Marsh snipe
- Alder tarin
- Garden warbler
- Feather sparrow
- Grey cuckoo
- Woodcock
- Wood lapwing crested
- Viviparous lizard
- Terrestrial salamander
Eminent bryologists (André and Marc Sotiaux) have also identified 9 different liverworts and 56 different mosses on the estate.
