Learning outcomes

The student will be expected to:
  • Use the skills acquired during their undergraduate degree in physics by actively participating in scientific research projects carried out within the department.
  • Select, summarise and orally present the key elements of a research project in which they have participated.

Goals

  • To give students the opportunity to work with concrete examples of scientific research projects.
  • Allow students to spend several days working in various research groups.
  • To present students with a representative range of the main areas of research conducted within the department.

Content

  • Presentation of the research topics to all the students enrolled in the UE, during the first two weeks of Q2.
  • Each student then participates in two research topics (2 x 4 days).
  • The different research topics are proposed at the beginning of the term; the student chooses one of the topics, the second is drawn at random from a different theme.
  • Practical information will be explained in due course.

Assessment method

  • The assessment takes into account the student's active participation and the writing and oral presentation of a personal work report.
  • The presentation is made outside the session.
  • Assessment is based on three marks:
    • student involvement
    • quality of the report
    • oral presentation.
  • If the 3 marks are equal to or higher than 10/20, the final mark is the arithmetic average. If one of the marks is less than 10/20, this mark will be awarded for the whole course.
