Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:


1) place certain canonical Western texts in chronological order,


2) describe them in their historical context and according to their genre and literary movement,


3) recognize and define the most widespread or historically important literary movements and genres in the West,


4) contextualize them in relation to a historical period or philosophical/artistic movement,


5) master key concepts in literary history,


6) explain the place of literature in Western society during the various periods considered and the actors involved in literary creation.

Content

Using concepts and issues that may vary from year to year, this course offers an overview of the history of Western literature, with an emphasis on certain major works. It also aims to familiarize students with essential literary notions.

Ex cathedra

The use of artificial intelligence tools will only be permitted if the teacher explicitly recommends it for educational purposes, within the framework of specific supervised activities. Outside of this specific use, the use of these tools will be strictly prohibited.
