The dissertation is a research work carried out according to the modalities applicable to a scientific research. It aims to train the student in the principles of scientific research and to verify his/her ability to study a problem in the field of computer science.
The dissertation is based on an internship in a company, a research team, in Belgium or abroad.
At the end of the dissertation, the student will be able to conduct scientific research, in particular :
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the subject matter.
- Conduct original and personal work developing own results and conclusions.
- Appropriate, integrate and mobilise existing in-depth knowledge for creative input in the field of computer science (critical literature review, method development, architectures, application and evaluation of methods, etc.)
-To develop a critical and systematic approach to all the work carried out.
- Demonstrate an ability to be autonomous in all the work carried out. - Communicate in writing with scientific style, rigour, formality and clarity. - Communicate results orally.
The final score refers to :
1) Evaluation of written work: an objective and scientific document that reports on the learning objectives and that :
- is a scientific synthesis of the personal and original work carried out;
- is about results, conclusions and arguments/justifications.
2) the assessment of the oral defence consisting of :
- a clear, concise presentation of its findings, conclusions and arguments/justifications;
- a question-and-answer session with the members of the jury, demonstrating a mastery of the subject studied and a critical mind.
