To determine with clarity the limits of press freedom through practical examination of areas of law, areas of lawlessness, jurisprudence and ethics.

Content

Analysis of the scope of action of the press, "watchdog of democracy", in its confrontation with the world in the name of the "right to information". Analysis of the difficult and demanding balance between the freedom and responsibilities of media actors: treatment of information, limitations and restrictions on freedom of expression, preventive censorship, right of reply, civil and criminal responsibilities, press offences, professional journalistic status, professional bans, etc.

Teaching methods

Development of the course on the basis of questions and specific cases taken from current events. Direct involvement of the students in order to link them to the subjects of the course that they will have to teach in the course.

Assessment method

Written answers to a specific questionnaire containing five to seven practical cases.
