The medical bioethics course should help to provide enrolled students with the following skills: -Be clear about some basic concepts in clinical and research ethics: autonomy, beneficence, justice, etc. -To be aware of the importance of the development of bioethics in the South. -Know how to analyse a clinical situation using certain classic methodological tools. -Be open to the human dimension of health care practices

Content

The medical bioethics course consists of 3 parts. 1. A general introduction to bioethics presenting the history and the context of emergence of this discipline. 2. A section on clinical ethics. First, various moral systems underlying human decisions are presented. A significant place is reserved for the issue of health care ethics in the South. 3. A section on research ethics. Six major principles regulating research on human beings are examined, with particular emphasis on the ethics of research in developing countries.
