The kot-à-projet organizes regular sky observations, with the support of Professor André Fuzfa.

Du Koté des Étoiles is a project-without-a-kot launched by students who share the same passion for science and astronomy. Through its activities, the kot-à-projet aims to promote astronomy and the popularization of space to as many people as possible, including the University of Namur student community, staff members and the general public. To carry out their mission, kàp students are fortunate to be able to collaborate regularly with Professor André Fuzfa, and benefit from a marvellous tool: the Antoine Thomas s.j. astronomical observatory. Situated in the heart of the campus, the observatory enables students to discover the sky, learn about research and photography, and much more. A project that takes on its full meaning with the integration of the University of Namur into the European space alliance UNIVERSEH.

The activities of the Koté des Étoiles are diverse and based on numerous collaborations developed over the years. Indeed, the kàp brings together members who have been part of former kots-à-projet such as Kap for Science, Astromath or Kotient. Students take part, for example, in observation sessions for the general public, and in outreach activities for the Printemps des Sciences and the Fête de l'Université.

Astronomy is also taught at the University of Namur.

Antoine Thomas s.j. Observatory

The UNamur Astronomical Observatory project aims to provide the Walloon capital with a permanent observatory, combined with a program of higher education, awareness-raising and scientific mediation open to students, schools and the general public. The Antoine Thomas s.j. Observatory is the culmination of more than a century of scientific and educational activity in the field of astronomy in Namur. It promotes local astronomy, an essential prerequisite for making the sky accessible to all, inviting travel and discovery. Equipped with exceptional instruments, the observatory offers an educational program specially designed for students, schools and the general public.

The 2023-2024 team

  • Nathan Ledoux

They work regularly with Professor André Fuzfa, full professor in the mathematics department.

UNIVERSEH Alliance

Since December 2022, the University of Namur has been part of the European alliance UNIVERSEH (European Space University for Earth and Humanity) focused on the theme of space. This alliance aims to develop a space to meet the societal, social and environmental challenges arising from European space policy. Objectives include building an interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral training offer and joint teaching programs, developing innovative pedagogical models, strengthening mobility and multilingualism in Europe, promoting diversity and enhancing inclusiveness within the alliance and beyond, in the space field.

UNamur thus joins the six other partners in this alliance, which tackles the space theme from a variety of angles: science, engineering, economics, social sciences and humanities, patents and innovation, entrepreneurship, science and medicine, sustainable development, art and culture, ..
