Following this course, students will be able to: - interpret IR and UV-visible/fluorescence spectra of organic compounds, - understand the principle of mass spectrometry, fragmentation of molecules, and analyse mass spectra, - analyse 1 and 2D NMR spectra of the proton, fluorine and carbon, and use the results to determine the structure of organic molecules, - use databases of IR/UV-Vis/Mass/NMR spectra, - to determine the structure of complex organic molecules by combining different spectroscopic analysis methods.
This course aims to provide the necessary foundation to enable students to accurately analyze the structure of organic molecules by combining several spectroscopic analysis methods. Practical aspects of analytical and spectroscopic measuring equipment and instruments will be covered, in order to enable students to become familiar with these methods and to facilitate their handling and practical use in the future

The lessons, given in French, use a combination of slides and writing on the board. The lessons are supplemented by a written material which contains some blank pages so that students can take note of the most important notions. The tutorials will complement and expand on the topics covered in class. A reversed class will take place in the middle of the year (see "Exercises" section below).
The evaluation of the courses and tutorials is done through a written exam (2 or 3 hours) and covers the whole of the subject matter covered during the year. The assessment is closed-book, so the student will not be allowed to bring course materials or other documents or tools to the examination. A mock exam will eventually be organised, depending on the pace and notions acquired during the year, and the vote of the students participating in the course.
A list of reference materials and books will be presented at the beginning of the four parts of the course.
