At the end of the course, the student will be able to explain orally or in writing the issues seen during the course as well as the thinking of the authors studied in relation to the themes covered as well as express a critical and personal point of view on the themes and authors seen during the course.
Academic training requires a deepening of religious knowledge, in order to avoid any gap between scientific training and reflection on the fundamental issues of existence. In this regard, a reflection on the origin of the religious phenomenon will be conducted as well as a journey through the major types of religion from the particular angle of the relationship that these different religions maintain with suffering and death.
The course will first consider the philosophical arguments for and against the existence of God, as well as different theories on the origin of the religious phenomenon (sociology, Marxism, psychoanalysis, anthropology,) before embarking on a historical journey to meet the different types of religions (shamanism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam) presented in their historical context. The relationship of these religions with the questions of suffering and death will finally be investigated critically.
Oral exam, 15 minutes, presentation of a question related to the course and previously approved by the professor for 8 minutes and 7 minutes of free questions and answers based on the work and the course.
The sources used must be provided at the exam if demanded. The use of AI is not authorized for writing the presentation for the exam.
