Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to : • to understand the functioning of a secondary school and to become part of an educational team; • to present a biology lesson sequence in a secondary school class; • make good use of different teaching methodologies; • adapt its working methods to the target audience; • plan a sequence of lessons by anticipating difficulties; • to assess the learning of their pupils; • to organise a laboratory; • to reflect on their practices.

Goals

The aim of this unit is to train a future experienced teacher, able to adapt to the different situations of secondary education and capable of a reflective process on his/her practices.

Content

In order to observe a certain diversity in secondary education, the course is organised in two streams: transition education and qualification education. A total of 30 hours of internship must be completed between January and April. Depending on the opportunities, the student may be required to complete a few hours of internship in a discipline other than biology (chemistry or physics). The student is expected to put into practice the elements seen in the courses of psycho-pedagogy and didactics and epistemology of biology. The organisation of the internships will be accompanied by the participation in two compulsory seminars which will be a place for sharing the experiences gained during the internships.

Assessment method

The evaluation is carried out taking into account the following elements • reports from the training supervisors ; • the student's portfolio (compilation of their course preparation and reflective feedback on their practice) which they will have to defend in an oral exam; • evaluation by UNamur trainers.
