Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student-pharmacist will be able to (1) recognize major clinical pictures frequent in the Belgian population (myocardial infarction, meningeal syndrome, frequent cutaneous lesions,... ), (2) give general and specific health advice adapted to the patient's pathology, (3) identify the degree of urgency of a health problem expressed by the patient and, if necessary, refer him/her to a doctor or to an emergency service, (4) recognise an emergency situation and practise resuscitation and first aid measures

Goals

The course is addressed to the students in Pharmacy who intend to a liberal practice in pharmacy. The pharmacist of pharmacy became an essential link in the sanitary surveillance of the population become more important with the demographic evolutions (ageing of the population increase of the prevalence of the chronic diseases...).

Content

The course is divided into 3 parts: (1) adult and paediatric semiopathology, (2) first aid and (3) learning resuscitation techniques on high and low fidelity mannequins.

Assessment method

The examination of the theoretical part will consist of short answer and multiple choice questions. The practical examination will be based on the performance of first aid procedures on mannequins.
