Learning outcomes

- Ability to apply economic reasoning to a particular question and to explain it in simple but rigorous terms.

- Ability to read economic texts in English.

- Learn to write in a clear and convincing way and to give oral presentations.

Goals

The main objective of this seminar is to encourage students to apply economic reasoning to specific issues. Students should learn how economic analysis can provide answers to various economic and social questions. Students should also learn to explain their economic reasoning in simple but rigorous terms, both when writing articles and when giving oral presentations.
Finally, students are encouraged to improve their passive knowledge of English and to become familiar with English economic jargon.

Content

Students choose two topics. For each topic, they read several articles (written in English) and then write an own article (in French). This article should present the most important aspects of the topic in a concise way and should, moreover, provide a critical discussion. Students give short oral presentations on both of the topics that they choose (one in the form of a video).

Assessment method

The evaluation is based on the intermediate and final versions of the articles and on the quality of the oral presentations. Moreover, there will be a short exam.

The evaluation criteria are:

- Thorough use of economic reasoning

- Thorough and critical use of available sources

- Quality of writing

- Quality of oral presentations (one in the form of a video)

- Compliance with the timetable
