Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

1) situate certain Spanish-American canonical texts chronologically,

2) describe and analyze them in their historical context

3) recognize the formal and thematic devices specific to a given historical period or literary trend

4) write a text commentary in French analyzing these devices

5) describe the major aesthetic trends that have marked Spanish-American literature.

Content

The course is divided into two parts:
1) A panoramic part (ex cathedra lecture and text explanation) designed to provide students with the main points of reference in Spanish-American literary history (major aesthetic periods, authors and major works, specificities and continuities).
2) An explanatory “seminar” section to contextualize and explore in greater depth, through textual examples, some of the concepts examined in the previous chronological section. Texts illustrating a Hispano-American (narrative) modality, sub-genre or particular trend will be analyzed, depending on the year.

Teaching methods

Lecture and interactive seminar

The use of artificial intelligence tools will only be permitted if the teacher explicitly recommends it for educational purposes, within the framework of specific supervised activities. Outside of this specific use, the use of these tools will be strictly prohibited.


Assessment method

Assessment will be both continuous (attendance at course sessions and seminar work) and by oral examination.

In the case of a second session, the oral exam will account for the entire grade.
