In the first year, it's crucial to acquire a work methodology adapted to the university context and its demands.
In fact, during the first quadrimester, you will need to develop and effectively use new methodological skills in order to, in particular:
- take quality notes,
- manage your time over a week and the whole term,
- break down large objectives into smaller ones,
- be able to actively process the material and memorize it in depth...
A methodological module is therefore offered during these preparatory courses to support you in this new challenge(s).
More specifically, the preparatory courses offer you three activities spread over two days, "Learning about university", "Training in university work methodology" and "Familiarization with the campus and faculty".

Learning at university
This module aims to make you aware of the major methodological differences between secondary and higher education through theoretical contributions and practical exercises. To make the discussion as lively as possible, this module is enriched by various testimonials from Block 1 students in the Faculty of Law, who give their impressions of the past year, the factors which, according to their experience, contributed to their success or difficulties, and the need to adapt their methods. The session closes with a question-and-answer session so that you can freely ask these more experienced students about the various aspects of student life in your future Faculty and at the University of Namur in general. In fact, we feel it's crucial to start building relationships as early as these two days of preparatory classes.
Training in university work methodology
The faculty's pedagogical manager presents the first-year bachelor's program, the main deadlines of the academic year and pedagogical support. You then have the opportunity to take two courses taught by first-year professors at the Faculty.
The first course - in the humanities - is taught on the first day. This is followed by an exercise designed to assess the quality of your note-taking and your ability to identify the structure of the lecture. On the second day, a legal lecture is followed by case-based exercises and an introduction to legal methodology.
Familiarization with the campus and faculty
Accompanied by a law student, you visit the faculty and campus. This visit allows you to discover the lecture halls, seminar rooms, secretariat, law library, central library, circle, university restaurant... while asking your questions to an "old hand". These two days are also an opportunity to already make contacts with other students and approach the start of the new academic year with confidence, having already made your mark at the faculty.
