This course intends to give the students the ability not only to understand the stakes of international cooperation in the field of trade policy but to give them the opportunity to cooperate to reach this objective.
They should be able to enter in a new tought process very different than the usual formal mathematical modeling inspired by the International Political Economy and write a coherent essay in this matter.
The course introduces the concepts of : - cooperation - global political economy - KIEOs - management of the global economy - hegemony, realism, liberalism, historical structuralism - global trade regime
The students are evaluated on basis of :
1. Their presentations : quality of the preparation and of the presentation. New materials outside the textbook are appreciated if relevant.
2. Their participation : questions asked during the debate, contribution to the debate, ... This accounts for 50% of the mark.
3. An essay - of 10 pages maximum (without annexes) - must be written by every student. This essay accounts for the other 50% of the mark.
The essay must be posted (in the directory “Travaux” of the webcampus site of the course) not later than June 1st 12.00 p.m.
The essay subject subject is how the concepts, principles, elements of debates of the course could be applied to explain the situation and give some prospects in either the European automotive or the steel sector. (The choice of the sector is left to the student).
It's an evidence that each chapter of the course has a specific importance in the analysis, so the quality of the argument and the student's creativity in the conception of this argument are the main criteria of the evaluation.
New materials, references, examples, … originality in the text are appreciated.
Correct formal presentation and referencing are mandatory.
